About me

Mommy. Story Teller. Bloggess. Wannabe Polymath. Struggling Humanitarian. Literary Social Vigilante. Amateur Ethnologist. Hopelessly Romantic. Aspiring Stand-up Comedian. Future Couch Potato. Single Tab Addict. Rachana Nadella-Somayajula.

Wind chimes outside my kitchen window, keep me up on cold, sweltering or windy nights.. It feels like my rite of passage when I get the chance to write.. A thought, an idea that bursts out of my heart like a swift river with waves looking for the early morning sun’s rays.. A brilliant sense of euphoria then surrounds me, making my physical being intangible to my surroundings..

About the Blog

Human rights, Humanity, Heart, Compassion, Poverty, Philanthropy, Psychology

This blog was founded on December 20th, 2008. I write because I dream of a world where there is no war, no poverty and no child left hungry. I will write until my dream comes true or I die, whichever comes first. Please note, everything on the site is my own prose and poetic accumulations, unless otherwise noted, ergo, copyrighted..

Content Warning

Human rights are the main subject matter of this blog. Hence, many stories and comments contain graphic descriptions of human rights violations. Human rights violations often entail atrocitiescruelty and violence, but not always or necessarily. Nevertheless, readers of this blog are warned that they may stumble upon descriptions and images containing violence and cruelty. However, I ask for your understanding since it is impossible to deal with the subject of human rights without describing and showing violence and cruelty. Shocking stories or images are published here not to shock or because of sensationalism. My motivations are strictly idealistic and educational.

    Jamie Dedes

    • Thanks for the wishes Jamie, and this is coming from the highly decorated herself.. then it must mean something! Ha ha.. I will take it! ;)
My computer crashed Friday night in the middle of writing something new here, so I just have a loaner laptop now and all the drafts I ever had erased.. I have to start working from ‘thin air’ now.. :( But, thanks for letting me know you are waiting, it gives a lot of wind to the fire!
      Love you.
      Rachana.

  17. Very nice information, I found your blog on Google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work, Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

  19. Found your site via Souldipper. Enjoying myself thoroughly, so thanks for opening your Heart!

Drop by my “eclectic” blog (“Reflections From a Cloudy Mirror”) any time. . .it’s like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get. Wait, no – that’s life, isn’t it? Have I heard that before? But, it couldn’t be that’s life, because that’s what all the people say – you’re ridin’ high in April, shot down in May. . .I’ve heard that before too, I think. . .hmmm. . .who am I? Where am I? Oh yeah – Heart.

    Thanks again – I’ll leave off the smiley. . .no, I won’t. :-D

Yes, I will, scratch that smiley, by all means!

I became subscriber #28, because it’s my same age – talk about synchronicity. I never lie. . .

    • Ha ha.. Thanks for all the laughs Paula, appreciate your visit. I like eclectic.. So, I checked out and turns out I like your site! Thanks, appreciate your kind words and thanks so much for subscribing.. It is a great motivator ;)
      Rachana.

  20. Hey Rachana!

Thank you for your comment on the Prague essay and for reading Blogpourri. Hope to get back to blogging soon. In the meantime, best wishes for your writing. Take care.

    Sujatha

    • Hi Sujatha! Thanks for stopping by :) I thoroughly enjoyed your Prague pictures and your personal blog.. But, by the time I was ready to leave a lengthy comment on one of the posts about your childhood, I realised it was just for an inner circle! It is alright, as I understand you are on a break, hope to read more and hopefully I will get a chance to leave some feedback..
      Thanks for your wishes!
      Rachana.

  21. Long past due reading your “About.” Well done … Nice to get to know you better.

    :-) Hugs!

  22. It’s nice to meet yet another humble explorer. I am especially intrigued by Literary Social Vigilante and Aspiring Stand-up Comedian. Please tell me more.

    • A fellow blogger recently asked me what I was trying to achieve by writing.. :) I thought about it and came up with this idea of adding the Vigilante phrase, because I wondered if the bottom line of what I wanted to say was not so in the face for my reader to see?! And standup?, you will have to wait to see.. Or I will have to direct to a post that says, How.To.Write(NOT)..
Thanks for visiting Charles, such a pleasure to see your comments here!!
      Rachana

  23. Such a lovely blog – “Live and let live” learn and share :)

  24. Merry Christmas Rachana!

I Hope you and your family are having a good one and your trip is fun.

    Mr. Mojo Risin

(P.S. did Santa bring your son that left-handed guitar?)

    • Santa a.k.a. dad-in-shining-armor had to shop around for Transformers, Sponge bobs, Bakugans – to finally come up with something the boy will like and thanks to that, I am suffering with what I will call a post-concussion state of boys and their toys.. :(
And now, I know!! You got one of those kind for yourself!! Ha ha..
Thanks Mojo, you remember my little lefty fella! :D

      • Kids can be picky when it comes to toys, I remember I was a brat every now and then. I just hope he gave you a cheery smile and hug for all the gifts :).

I pay attention to details, makes the conversations that much better :).

  25. Rachana, you are indeed all “heart.” I am so happy to have you in my writerly life. Blessings …

  26. Hi Heart! I was so glad you’re back but there was no posts in your site. I tried 3 ways but with same result. I hope you find out why.

    • Poch, thanks so much for alerting me! I had no idea, I have subscribed to my own blog, but did not click on the link my email to make sure :) Initially, I had this post for 3 days and had “Privately” published it while I was working on the draft form. So, after I was done with it, I updated the status to “Public” and published. It messed up the short link – where it was showing a March 2nd version and this new short link had a March 6th Public post link.
I know I won’t be doing this experiment ever again.. :))
      See you around soon!
      Take care,
      Rachana.

  27. Hi there–
Thanks so much for your comments and for visiting my blog! Love the word bloggess that you use to describe yourself.

    Cheers,
    Cheri

    • Hi Cheri, thanks for visiting! I should say I am lucky to stumble across your awesome travel blog :) Your musings and photographs go great together – and they make for a great compilation on your blog! Hope to stay in touch, good day!
      Rachana.
